Basic Inspection Services & Annual Inspection Services
Basic Inspection Service
Check the oil level
The team at Feldmann Power will check the oil, both the level and the cleanliness. Just like your vehicle’s engine benefits from a routine oil change, your portable & standby generators will also benefit. We will also check & replace the air and fuel filters as needed.
Run the generator (typically no-load, automatic transfer switch exercise cycle)
Our experts will verify that the unit ran and has no alarms or warnings and ensure adequate fuel levels. We will ensure that the generator is in “Auto” mode, for automatic startup. The experts will check that the circuit breaker is closed and make sure there are no fluid leaks.
Check engine coolant level.
Our pros will make sure there is adequate coolant by checking the level in the catch tank (overflow tank). We will also check the coolant thermal-protection level and inspect the accessory drive belts for correct tension and condition.
Check Connections
Feldman will confirm that there are no loose clamps or wire connections, and no corrosion or damage to terminals or wiring. We will also inspect batteries for cleanliness and signs of corrosion and check the operation of the battery charger.
Perform load bank testing.
A load test of at least 30% of rated load to test the entire system for proper operation and make the generator work at operating temperature. A visual inspection of the alternator for any dirt, heat or moisture damage will be done. We will also test the windings and clean as necessary.
Annual Inspection Service
Inspect air induction piping & connections.
Check for fuel leaks and inspect fuel system hoses and connectors.
Flush the cooling system (as needed).
Clean the crankcase breather.
Inspect the DC electrical system, control panel and accessories
Inspect the exhaust system, muffler and exhaust pipe.
Inspect the coolant heater.
Check the battery electrolyte level and specific gravity.
Generator Reflashing
Our Generator Reflashing Process
The most common cause of portable generators failing to produce electricity is from the loss of residual magnetism. Generators need to work and it helps maintain that residual magnetism. When they are running, a load should be connected to it. It helps create an even stronger magnetic field. Before you shut it off, turn off the switch or breaker to disconnect the load. If you shut off a generator with the load connected, it can essentially drain or demagnetize the electromagnet.
Feldmann Power can restore a generator residual magnetism when lost due to lack of use, running out of fuel during use, running a generator with no load for too long or or from the load on your generator being connected when the generator is shut off.
